Oral Heath: One baby-step at a time
Dr. Perry believes in creating positive early dental experiences for children and enjoys seeing children of all ages. He recommends parents to bring children for their first oral health checkup between 1-2 years of age. While this is extremely young, this step begins the all-important journey of a child hearing, seeing, and receiving preventive dental care. By engaging children in positive dentistry experiences early on, they can grow to expect healthy results without any fear of the unknown.
Calming through communication
For children who may be anxious about visiting a dentist, or uncertain about the process, we will first communicate and explain to them at their level of understanding. If the child remains anxious after learning more, “Laughing gas” or nitrous oxide is available at our office upon request. It is a safe and effective strategy for managing fear and anxiety in children ages 3 and above. The dosage of the gas can be easily adapted depending on the age and size of the child, and the effects of the nitrous oxide wear off quickly.
Our team does NOT use any restraint or sedation on children. Rather, we work with children to prevent the development of unnecessary fear which can negatively impact a child’s dental health journey.
